Committee

Cerys - Chair

I’ve been playing netball since school—over 15 years now—but it was during university that I really got serious about the sport, competing in both BUCS and LUSL leagues. After uni, I played for Cobham Netball Club before taking a short break when I moved to Cardiff, where I swapped the court for the water and took up rowing.

When I relocated to Oxford, I was keen to return to netball and joined Didcot Netball Club in September 2023. The club’s friendly and welcoming atmosphere quickly made me feel at home, and by September 2024, I stepped into the role of Chair. I’m passionate about netball and proud to be part of a club that values community, inclusivity, and a love of the game.

Scott - Treasurer

I took on the role of treasurer around April 2023 after a request for support to join the committee specifically as treasurer. It seemed a good fit for me and for the family given both my daughters play netball with my wife and eldest daughter additionally trained as umpires in addition to a 30-year background in financial services.

I’ve never played the game and made it clear from the outset that I wouldn’t be but that gives me a clear line of impartiality when discussing with the committee how best to manage our limited funds.

By day, I work in IT as an analyst with additional responsibility in other voluntary roles locally plus trustee positions for both a local and a national charity. Volunteering has been a mainstay for me for the last 25 years and offering your learned skills to make a difference to help others is the sole driver for me plus I get to meet lots of different people and learn new skills along the way.

I loved playing netball at school but gave up when I left.  In 2009, a group of us, mainly Mums, decided to set up a Back to Netball Club and I have been a member ever since, playing in the Senior Team.  I am proud to say, that Didcot Netball Club is still thriving!

Karen - Committee member

I played netball at school and loved it, I gave it up for a couple of years while having my family but always loved the sport and as my children grew up, I came back to the sport, so proud to be a founder member of the club, I have made friends for life. Proudest achievement playing netball at senior level with my daughter.

I help with coaching the juniors and it is so rewarding to see them progress; I love it when our juniors move up and start playing senior netball. I feel lucky to be able to encourage our juniors to love such a great sport.

As the oldest member of the club which I don’t let any of the club forget, it is a privilege to be still playing netball with such talented players.

Penny - Deputy Chair

DNC has been a big part of both my daughters' childhoods with my youngest joining the club in 2023 and my eldest re-joining the club in 2024 as a senior. I joined the committee to help run the club and have focused mainly on increasing the club's engagement by building a new website, setting up the social media channels and

assisting with updating governance, policy and procedures. Whilst I do not play competitively, I am one of the the club's biggest fans and you will often find me cheering everyone on from the sidelines.

Shauna - Committee member

I’ve always enjoyed sport and I am more than willing to give anything a shot – badminton, squash, swimming, athletics, cross-country running, tennis, hockey - but the one sport I have always had a love for is netball.

I had a lull after leaving school, but since 2016 it has been a huge part of my life, dabbling in leagues in Gloucestershire and Yorkshire. Following a big and permanent move to Oxfordshire, I took the plunge and joined Didcot Netball Club in September 2023. I haven’t looked back!

I am now the secretary, and I am honoured to be entrusted with this position. I am involved with decisions that impact the club and can offer my support for projects that the committee takes on. We have a fantastic, supportive group of people and in no time at all you feel like you have always been a part of the team.

Maria - Committee member

My daughter has been playing with Didcot Netball Club for several years. It has been lovely to see her and her team mates grow in confidence and skill over the years, and to watch them play as a team. I joined the committee as parent representative a number of years ago. I hope to support the club as best I can and to watching the club and its members go from strength to strength.
